My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because I can enlarge pictures on the computer better. This camera seems to impress everyone with the quality of the pictures it takes … like magic. HP does not sell cameras now, but there may be some like this at really great prices. This camera is about five years old. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0502/05021803hp_m417.asp …

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD display. Would suggest that you find one that has an optical view finder because the LCD is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

That looks like a good camera, but would probably go for for this camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital. Only $249 at Walmart or Best Buy. This seems to be more camera for less money.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate.
Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor).

Check Walmart and Best Buy for prices. The people at Best Buy can give you really great advise and good prices.

The first link below will provide lots of information on most of the old and new cameras available today.

The second link will help you learn to clean the camera and battery contacts on any camera you buy. Digital Cameras require lots of power. If the contacts are not really good it can cause lots of problems. This is really important.

Wow … thats kinda high end Pro stuff your looking at there i think .If your looking for an SLR that you only use occasionally then I would suggest you use a " 35mm " type ..thats pressuming that your thinking of digital rather than film .35mm film cameras can be had for a few pounds these days if you buy second hand on ebay … A mid range Nikon digital SLR such as the D80 would set you back around £600 new with a 18-135 tele lens . this camera is of fine quality and would no doubt deliver the kind of practicality to suit your needs .

that is a really professional camera……if you really want a camera just to take simple pics of your kids you should try just a point and shoot….they are generally easy to operate and they work well. these are a few that i reccomend:
    Nikon Coolpix:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8815259&type=product&id=1206749659951
Nikon cameras take really good quality pics and they arent very complicated to use

    Olympus SW 790 or 850:

I love this camera because you take picutres underwater of your kids which allows you to snap great shots in any wet enviroment.

    Canon Powershot:

I love this camera because it is simple and easy to use! Hope this will be helpful and good luck :)

Thats not a bad choice and the cost at only $39,000 is a bargain. If you want to step it up a notch they are coming out with a 50mp version soon. This is the camera I let my 5 year old play with. It is a little heavy for him but I figure it gives him a good workout.

My choice would be Canon Powershot SD IS, 600- 1100 series. Compare on CNET.com and check reviews. I have the ELPH 1000SD for my wife, and the 950SD IS for me. They have lot’s of features, are compact and easy to use. You can get them on sale for <$200. SONY are good too. If you want more expensive, try Nikon CoolPix Be aware that higher pixel count doesn’t necessarily mean better pictures, and zooms tend to show any hand shaking. IS is Image Stabalization, which helps correct this. Digital cameras are PC’s and may consume power fast. That’s why you check the reviews.

Even though you have chosen a high-end SLR, you don’t want to risk dropping it during a photo shoot with young kids. Instead look into a more compact and less expensive compact digital camera which also takes wonderful videos.

The all time winner bargain compact digital camera is the Canon 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD1000 [not the IS] 7.1 with an added 2- gig memory card which when set in the manual mode for "Vivid" colors and videos at 30 fps in 320 dpi format provides killer images and videos under low light conditions. It currently sells for $160 at Sears:

    Good luck!
